Retro Belle and Sebastian

It's a bit strange to think that when Belle and Sebastian, now one of my favourite bands, formed, I was only six years old. Eleven years on from the legendary all night cafe, the band are still going strong, despite a few line up changes. They're one of those bands I find that old and new material I love. So lets go for a wee history lesson...

1996 - "Tigermilk" - was originally a music project for College. Only 1000 copies were pressed. Now the original vinyl can fetch around £400 at auction. Electronic Renaissance - so 80s

1996 - If You're Feeling Sinister - classic album. I think it was referred to as "good songs recorded badly" by the band so it was the choice to release as a live album recorded in 2005. This is the title track

1997 - The band realeased EPs - Beautiful is from 3..6..9..Seconds of Light, the bands first top 40 single. The EPs can all be found on Push Barman to Open Old Wounds

1998 - The Boy with the Arab Strap - Teachers soundtrack. 'Nuff said.

2000 - Fold Your Arms Child, You Walk Like A Peasant- one of the less known albums, but includes the sublime - I Fought In A War

2002 - Storytelling - this was a soundtrack for a film of the same name. Still yet to see the film. I just love this song's name - Fuck this Shit

So there we have it, how Belle and Sebastian became the best Scottish band of all time (well, according to The List).
Unfortunately all tracks are itunes except Beautiful due to some technical failures (ie a computer with all my music on it crashing and most my B&S music is on vinyl. Ouch.). I will probably put up a better quality version of Beautiful up at some point too because the sound is not great on it and if all gets sorted out, get mp3s up instead of AACs.

Nu-rave, indie dance, electro pop...whatever you want to call it, here are some of the best dance tunes around, some old and some new (and mostly for Nicola's benefit) Glowsticks at the ready!

Klaxons are the NMEs new darlings, spearheading the "nu-rave" scene, Shitdisco are the Scottish representatives and funkier. The Gossip are from America, basically fighting for your rights to be who ya want and to dance. Older Goldfrapp song but a classic and Ladytron probably have the coolest haircuts in town

That time of year...

Back at school, exams and university interviews to look forward to. Oh joy. Instead of thinking about that, I'm just looking forward to when I can get a holiday (yes, I am aware we've only been back a week and a half.)

As I created this blog to for the people I know in Deustchland, I think its only right that the first tracks remind me of Silvester there...
